Labrador gives Alzheimer's sufferer independence
12 October 2015.
A Waikato woman who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease is looking forward to regaining her independence thanks to a specially trained canine friend.Lexus, a two-year-old Labrador, is being trained to assist Anne Dredge with navigating the disease.
Anne and her husband Peter Dredge sold their insurance business and moved from Hamilton to Paeroa to help Anne with the transition.
Peter Dredge is visibly upset as he talks about the moment his wife was diagnosed.
"Anne was diagnosed three years ago with atypical Alzheimer's... we saw it coming for quite a few years," he said.
