The Office is seeking budgetary funding to pilot homeshare programmes for older people who need support to stay living in their own homes.
This report provides information and analysis of homeshare as a housing option for seniors. It outlines the contextual factors and issues that would need consideration to ensure the sustainability and success of homeshare as a housing option for older homeowners.
The report is designed as a resource to inform the design and implementation of pilot homeshare programmes in Aotearoa New Zealand if funding for the pilots secures approval.

This report examines how experiences between ages 45 and 65 influence wellbeing after age 65. Using data from 787 older New Zealanders in the Health, Work and Retirement study, it applies sequence and cluster analysis to identify life-course patterns across employment, housing, health, relationships, caregiving, and adverse events. It then assesses how these patterns affect outcomes like economic wellbeing, social support, loneliness, depression, health service use, and multiple disadvantage.
The findings highlight key intervention points in mid-life to improve outcomes in older age. This report supports the Ministry of Social Development's Long-Term Insights Briefing, on current and future disadvantage for older people.
